Episode Seven: Matthew Sturm in-studio interview and performance; Stage Banter's favorite cover songs
This week we welcome Matthew Sturm to the Monastic Chambers studios for an interview and live performance — one old song, one new song, and one Josh Rouse song (featuring drunken backup vocals by the Stage Banter team). We then launch into a selection of our favorite cover versions — live, rare, unreleased, hard-to-find and more. Everyone's got favorites, and everyone's got opinions, natch. This special Fourth of July episode is super-sized and almost 80 minutes long! Lots of music and lots of highlights.

my lord that was fun
You guys should make Sturm an unofficial Banterer. Have him check his schedule and see when he can be on again! :-)

Great performance/contribution from Matthew Sturm. Sturm is always great, even whilst busking on Barr Street. S-B in-studios must continue!
Nice line from Sean, regarding the Josh Rouse concept album (1972): "...the concept being that it's good."
My train of thought on the "unknown" origins of the outro...
Matthew Sturm/Joe Cocker/Box Tops/Alex Chilton/Paul Westerberg/Matt Kelley.
Damn, Sean, we need to lay off the Wild Turkey the next time we have a studio guest that we think we might like to harmonize with.
Matt Sturm was great. Damn pity about the guitar case, we need to make that right.
FYI if you're reading the MySpace notes -- my three covers were all officially released:
Daydream Believer - Paul Westerberg - "World Class Fad" CD#2 (back when UK singles had two versions)
Season of the Witch - Luna - 'I Shot Andy Warhol' soundtrack, or recent iTunes-only 'Lunafied' collection
Streets of Philadelphia - Marah - "Point Breeze" EP which is absolutely essential. My favorite EP ever.
gillespie needs to lock his liquor cabinet
i feel the same regarding the cat piss covered case - perhaps a gift certificate to chilis?
i shall make the corrections/amendments - mkelley!
