Episode 13: Fall Music Preview; reviews of Modern Times, TnT, Rocky Mountain Folks Fest
The Stage Banter team gives a concise rundown of highly anticipated albums set to be released during our favorite months, September and October. What's more, we each handpick two records and play exclusive preview cuts — in some cases rare demos or live bootlegs — to really stoke your fire. We also review Bob Dylan's buzz-worthy new release Modern Times, in stores August 29, the TnT concert we sponsored, and the Rocky Mountain Folks Fest. All that, and music news! It's 79.9 minutes of goodness, folks.

the fine points:
one) sean lennons debut album 'into the sun' was released in 1998
2) chris cornells debut album 'euphoria morning' was released in 1999
thirdly) the first audioslave album was released on epic ... the second on interscope ... this third one will be released through sony
Epic = Sony, right.
If y'all enjoyed the Pernice Brothers track, head on over to pernicebrothers.com and pre-order the album. You'll receive it on or before day-of-release, but best of all you'll get a free, Joe-Pernice-autographed acoustic demo version of the whole album on CD -- basically the tracks that Joe handed the band and said, "Here's the new album..."
true indeed mkelley
also ... not to be outdone
head over to zambooie.com and pre-order the new mewithoutyou and get a tshirt as well ... for twenty two
merge.com has the richard buckner town mp3 and a pre-order for 'meadow' that includes an autographed poster
dig it!
er ... rather ... make that mergerecords.com
and forget about the mp3 ... you can stream the entire album via the site
Two free downloadable songs from the up-coming Yo La Tengo album at www.matadorrecords.com
I'm pretty sure Epic and Sony are one in the same, as pretty much every label will be soon enough.
Great battle of the extras, guys.
Dylan's voice, delivery, and lyrics (humor!) are such a joy at this point, it's hard for me to care whether I like the band/arrangements/production or not. It certainly doesn't spoil the effort, I'm pretty sure of that.
Greg: Name 1,2,3 Oldham records to buy that cover the most ground. I have looked at his stuff (Palace, etc.) for years, but never pulled the trigger.
Richard Buckner is very good. I saw him open for either The Wallflowers or X at the Patio around 94.
didnt mention on the podcast (because it only has a canadian release date thus far) that tragically hip will release their new album 'world container' october 17th
the first single 'in view' (which is the most blatantly pop song they have ever released) is streaming at their site: www.thehip.com
enjoy!

Rev. Mike:
Oldham has released almsot as much as Dylan, except in 15 years.
For Starters:
- Bonnie 'Prince' Billy's "I See A Darkness" album is universally considered to be his masterpiece, although it takes a few listens. David Pajo (Slint, etc.) plays on a lot of Oldham's stuff - he mixed this one. Lyrically, this is one of my all time favorite albums, as is his "Master and Everyone" for the same reason.
- Palace Music's "Viva Last Blues" is a bluesy/americana trip through the mid-90s indie world ... even produced by none other than Steve Albini. Jason Lowenstein was in the band on this one.
- For the third one, I'd say pick up the new one when it comes out, if the song I played on Stage Banter is any indication, it's gonna be really good. The reviews thus far are all calling it his second masterpiece, although I think he already has 3 of those to his name.
I have 30 or so albums from the guy, you're more than welcome to bike over with a bookbag and borrow the whole lot if you want.
Ps. Sean just traded in "Ease Down the Road" at FYE, so I'm sure you could get that one today for $6 or $7, maybe less.
As a charter listener, I felt the satisfaction of connection when I came across Matt's parenthetical John Minton comment in his fine Whatzup cover story on Bob Dylan. Sweet memories of Ep 3.
